About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own significant portions of the monthly, quarterly and year-end close, including journal entries, accruals, account analysis and balance sheet reconciliations in accordance with GAAP
  • Prepare and review recurring allocations and reporting across business units
  • Prepare weekly and monthly operations, spend and KPI reporting for plant leadership
  • Support fixed asset and capital project accounting
  • Maintain product costs for material, labor and overhead within a standard cost environment
  • Support and help own the annual standard cost roll
  • Monitor inventory transactions and valuation; support cycle counts, physical inventories and reserve analysis
  • Analyze and explain manufacturing variances, including purchase price variance, labor efficiency, overhead absorption, scrap and shipping
  • Document standard costing, inventory and variance accounting processes
  • Partner with plant, operations, supply chain and sourcing teams on budgets, forecasts and S&OP inputs
  • Track actual results against targets and perform root cause analysis
  • Identify cost reduction, margin improvement and inventory optimization opportunities
  • Develop and improve KPIs for operational and financial performance visibility
  • Support internal and external audits and follow through on action items
  • Execute and strengthen internal controls, including SOX compliance activities
  • Lead process improvement and standardization across close, costing and reporting
  • Support ERP and reporting system initiatives, including testing, configuration input and user adoption
  • Mentor and train junior accounting staff
  • Manage multiple assignments independently while meeting deadlines

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field
  • 3 to 5 years of progressive accounting experience
  • Strong working knowledge of GAAP and the full month-end close cycle, including journal entries and account reconciliations
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of results in a fast-paced environment
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including pivot tables, lookups and data analysis
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills
  • Ability to explain financial results to non-finance partners
  • Up to 10% travel
  • Preferred: accounting experience in a manufacturing environment
  • Preferred: working knowledge of cost accounting, standard cost systems, inventory accounting and variance analysis
  • Preferred: experience supporting or owning an annual standard cost roll
  • Preferred: ERP experience, ideally Microsoft Dynamics 365 Business Central or a similar system
  • Preferred: experience with consolidation or reporting tools such as OneStream
  • Preferred: CPA or CMA, or progress toward certification
  • Preferred: public company experience, including SOX compliance
