About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Code and abstract hospital medical records for Inpatients, Observation, Outpatient Surgery, Invasive Outpatients, and Emergency Department
- Utilize federal and state procedures and guidelines to ensure coding and abstracting accuracy and productivity standards
- Collaborate with medical staff and clinical documentation improvement staff to clarify documentation
- Maintain performance according to corporate compliance requirements for coding, abstracting, and DRG assignment
- Review records and use ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, CPT-4, and encoder to code diagnoses and procedures
- Sequence principal or first-listed diagnoses and principal procedures according to medical-record documentation and UHDDS definitions
- Use reference materials regarding DRGs to validate DRG assignments
- Abstract required data into the computer system and follow established downtime procedures as needed
- Participate in maintaining DNB and accounts receivable goals
- Maintain department-level competencies and participate in performance improvement activities
Requirements
What you’ll need- Minimum of two years inpatient records coding experience or equivalent
- Ability to perform functions in a Microsoft Windows environment
- Ability to be detail oriented and perform tasks at a high level of accuracy
- Ability to make sound decisions
- Good communication and teamwork skills
- Previous experience with an electronic legal health record system preferred
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Knowledge of Anatomy & Physiology and medical terminology required
- Coding education preferred or equivalent in years of experience
- AHIMA Certified Coding Specialist (CCS) certification required for all employees hired after 10/1/2025
- Candidates must complete and pass onsite testing in Marlton, NJ prior to an interview
