About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design treatment plans delivering prescribed radiation doses and field placement techniques to defined tumor volumes
  • Consider dose-limiting structures and document doses according to prescriptions
  • Perform dose calculations and verify mathematical accuracy under the Medical Physicist’s direction
  • Determine optimum treatment fields using field shape, gantry angulation, blocking, MLC, IMRT, and computerized dosimetry
  • Provide technical support for radiation protection, qualitative machine calibrations, and quality assurance
  • Support technical staff in implementing treatment plans, including immobilization devices, compensators, wedges, field arrangements, and other parameters
  • Maintain knowledge of radiation oncology treatment planning practices, methods, techniques, and developments
  • Participate in continuing education in medical dosimetry and current treatment planning techniques
  • Collaborate with the radiation oncologist, simulation therapist, and Medical Physicist
  • Manage dosimetry billing
  • Support planning and fabrication of compensation filters, custom shields, wedges, and beam-modifying devices
  • Produce block shapes for multileaf collimators
  • Ensure physician approval before first treatment
  • Transfer patient treatment data into the Record and Verify system and verify accuracy

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum of 1 year as a medical dosimetrist preferred
  • Graduation from an accredited radiation therapy program
  • CMD certification preferred at time of hire
  • Candidates who are not currently certified must be eligible to sit for the CMD examination and obtain CMD certification within two years of hire
  • CPR certification required
  • Knowledge of radiation oncology treatment planning, radiation therapy treatment machines, and equipment
  • Ability to generate radiation dose distributions and dose calculations
  • Availability for Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:30pm, first shift
  • 40 hours per week
