About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Conduct literature and open-source reviews of AI in the specialty area
  • Design, plan, and develop AI software using digital safety best practices
  • Apply technical, diagnostic, and troubleshooting skills to resolve complex AI and software engineering challenges
  • Design, plan, and create statistically meaningful evaluations of AI systems
  • Prepare written component documentation for technical audiences
  • Work closely with team members to ensure processes are accurate and technically sound
  • Lead teams executing distinct AI or software engineering workstreams
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior-level team members
  • Engage in standards technical committees

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • PhD in Computer Science with a focus in the applicable AI area of specialty
  • 4 or more years of directly related research experience
  • Mastery-level knowledge of AI safety in the specialty area
  • Ability to solve engineering research challenges independently and efficiently through integrated safety testing
  • Ability to create digital safety system components across different digital safety areas
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior-level team members
  • Ability to lead AI or software engineering workstreams
  • Ability to forecast end-user needs and research/tool development next steps
  • Ability to engage in standards technical committees
  • Ability to develop and maintain relationships within the AI and safety research community
