About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support distribution design and engineering projects implemented among clients in multiple states
  • Produce electric distribution field designs
  • Stake distribution facilities
  • Estimate projects and prepare construction prints using electronic design/estimation software
  • Meet with property owners, engineering firms, and construction resources while representing M&S and the client
  • Stay current with technologies, work planning, and design methodologies for electric distribution design
  • Develop detailed project scoping and engineering plans according to client construction standards
  • Recognize electric distribution framing and components from 4kV through 35kV for overhead and underground facility construction or reconstruction
  • Perform distribution line design calculations for structure loading, guying, geometric angles, conductor sag, material assemblies, framing, construction practices, and safety guidelines
  • Secure easements, rights of entry, and permits as needed
  • Take responsibility for work quality, accuracy, and deadlines
  • Incorporate subject matter expert input from Project Management, DOC, Data Maintenance, Planning, Operations, Transmission, and Construction
  • Resolve technical engineering conflicts affecting cost, schedule, quality, or customer satisfaction
  • Mentor and train staff to transfer design knowledge
  • Integrate safety, reliability, operability, constructability, and configuration management into final products, designs, and processes

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must possess a high school diploma or equivalent
  • Ability to pass background check and drug screening
  • Current Texas Driver’s License with an insurable driving record
  • Associates degree or certificate in Electric Power Technology with a minimum of one (1) year experience (preferred)
  • Three (3) years prior experience with electric distribution design and estimation (preferred)
  • Strong analytical and technical problem-solving skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally, orally and in writing
  • Proficient with a laptop computer and MS Outlook, MS Excel, and MS Word
  • Strong time management, organization, and multi-tasking skills
  • Ability to work outdoors extended hours, walk, and carry hammers, stakes, lathes, etc. over various terrain
  • Ability to travel, including overnight stays
  • Knowledge of Entergy’s GDT system and experience with Maximo, MicroStation, and/or AutoCAD (desired)
  • Familiarity with the NESC and its applications to electric distribution line design (desired)
  • Familiarity with operation and maintenance of electrical distribution systems (desired)
  • Familiarity with joint construction and electric utility best practices (desired)
  • Ability to interpret property line boundaries, topographic surveys, as-built surveys, construction staking, ROW staking, and geospatial points (desired)
  • Familiarity with permit acquisition procedures involving TxDOT, City, County, State, and Federal applications (desired)
  • Use of surveying equipment and gathering geospatial points (plus, but not required)
