About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Produce electric distribution field designs
- Stake distribution facilities
- Prepare project estimates and construction prints using electronic design/estimation software
- Apply client standards of construction and specifications
- Represent M&S and the client professionally when meeting property owners, engineering firms and construction resources
- Stay abreast of changing technologies, work planning and design methodologies associated with electric distribution design
- Mentor and/or train staff members
- Initiate designs for construction or reconstruction of overhead and underground distribution facilities from 4kV through 35kV
- Prepare cost estimates using unitized labor and material units, work instructions and construction sketches
- Use surveying equipment and gather geospatial points
- Interpret and apply the NESC to electric distribution line design
- Provide information and interpret processes for permit acquisition involving TxDOT, City, County, State and Federal applications
- Perform distribution line design calculations for structure loading, guying, geometric angle calculations, conductor sag interpretation and unitized framing design
- Manage work quality, accuracy and deadlines
- Multi-task several projects through changing design requirements, iterations and priorities
- Work outdoors, travel and perform field staking activities across varied terrain
Requirements
What you’ll need- Six (6) years’ prior experience with electric distribution design and estimation
- Strong background in both overhead and underground electric distribution line design, standards of construction and design guidelines
- Must possess a High school diploma or equivalent
- Ability to pass background check and drug screening
- Current Texas Driver’s License with an insurable driving record
- Proficient with the design of both overhead and underground electric distribution facilities
- Recognition of electric distribution framing and components 4kV through 35kV
- Ability to use electronic design/estimation software
- Ability to use surveying equipment and gather geospatial points
- Ability to interpret and apply the NESC to electric distribution line design
- Ability to perform distribution line design calculations for structure loading, guying, geometric angle calculations, conductor sag interpretation, unitized framing design, construction practices and construction safety guidelines
- Strong analytical and technical problem solving skills
- Proficient with a laptop computer and MS Outlook, MS Excel and MS Word
- Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing
- Strong time management and multi-tasking skills
- Ability to work outdoors for extended hours in various climate conditions and travel, including overnight stays for up to five nights
- Ability to walk over and across various terrain and carry surveying instruments, field and staking equipment
- Ability to use tools to clear brush or perform shallow excavation
- Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of electrical distribution systems
- Knowledge of joint construction and electric utility best practices
