About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own end-to-end administration of all employee leave programs, including FMLA, state-specific leaves, ADA accommodation-related leave, military leave, and company-provided leave policies
  • Serve as subject matter expert while ensuring compliance with federal and multi-state requirements for a US-based remote workforce
  • Track eligibility, certifications, and entitlement balances across concurrent leave types
  • Manage intermittent and reduced-schedule leave requests and ensure compliant time tracking
  • Coordinate with payroll, workers’ compensation carriers, and short- and long-term disability vendors on pay, benefits continuation, and return-to-work processes
  • Advise managers and employees on leave requests while maintaining confidentiality
  • Monitor legislative changes and update policies and processes
  • Maintain leave-related records, reporting, and audit readiness; prepare documentation for Director and/or Legal on complex cases
  • Support health, welfare, and retirement benefits administration, including enrollment, life-event changes, COBRA, vendor escalations, Open Enrollment, and audits
  • Maintain and improve leave and benefits business processes, manager training, and documentation
  • Identify process efficiencies and support related system implementations or upgrades

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years of progressive experience in leave of absence administration, with direct ownership of FMLA, disability, and multi-state leave compliance
  • Working knowledge of ADA interactive process requirements as they intersect with leave
  • Strong understanding of state-specific leave laws and their interaction with federal requirements
  • Experience partnering with payroll and third-party leave/disability administrators
  • Excellent judgment handling sensitive, confidential employee situations
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to explain complex leave rules clearly to employees and managers
  • Prior exposure to benefits administration — health & welfare plans and retirement plans (preferred)
  • Professional certification such as CLMS, CEBS, or PHR/SHRM-CP (preferred)
  • Experience with HRIS and leave management systems such as Workday or similar (preferred)
  • Experience operating across a remote, national employee population (preferred)
