About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead production, scheduling, and external audit liaison for MAG’s UK annual statutory accounts
- Supervise compliance accounts for overseas programmes and support HQ sample collation for donor audits
- Support development, communication, and enforcement of internal financial policies and controls
- Oversee month-end closure, balance sheet reconciliations, and accounts payable/receivable functions
- Authorise supplier payments and manage global programme fund transfers
- Control quarterly VAT submissions
- Support monthly management accounts and the HQ Annual Business Plan
- Drive continuous process and control improvements
- Assist with periodic cash forecasts, working capital reports, and schedules for future currency trades
- Manage the financial impact of foreign exchange fluctuations and regularly revalue balance sheet accounts
- Monitor organisational cash balances to maximise short-term deposit income while maintaining liquidity parameters
- Plan, prioritise, and communicate workloads for the Corporate Finance team
- Manage, motivate, and mentor team members, identifying training needs and supporting professional growth
- Cultivate continuous improvement within the team to optimise daily operations and add value to MAG
- Serve as a central contact for internal and external stakeholders, including suppliers, banks, and payroll providers, resolving queries and providing financial support
Requirements
What you’ll need- Experience preparing Charity SORP statutory accounts, management accounts, and business plans
- Direct experience managing external audits
- Expertise in complex, multi-currency transaction accounting
- Expertise in treasury cash flow management
- Knowledge of UK VAT legislation
- Advanced systems and Excel skills
- Proven experience managing, training, and motivating a part-qualified accounts team
- Strong technical accounting skills
- Ability to design efficient financial workflows and implement robust internal controls
- Ability to communicate complex financial information clearly to non-finance staff
- Ability to build strong professional relationships at all levels
- Self-motivated and detail-oriented
- Ability to work independently and adapt to changing circumstances
- Genuine commitment to MAG’s humanitarian mission
