About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide the full breadth of Child and Youth Behavioral counseling services to children of military service members and their families
  • Provide non-medical, short-term, solution-focused counseling at assigned primary and secondary locations
  • Conduct assessments, brief counseling, consultation, action planning, referrals, resource linkage, and follow-up
  • Provide consultation to parents, personnel, schools, installation command, and military branch Points of Contact regarding behavioral health issues
  • Support DoDEA and community school staff and personnel, youth programs, and summer camps
  • Provide parent training and guidance
  • Deliver training and health and wellness presentations and participate in health fairs and installation activities
  • Enter counselor activity data daily through smartphone or web applications while maintaining confidentiality and anonymity
  • Establish relationships with community resources and provide appropriate linkages
  • Maintain visibility within schools and follow line-of-sight protocols
  • Partner with installation/facility Points of Contact to address installation needs
  • Manage duty-to-warn and restricted-reporting situations according to DoD protocol
  • Participate in individual and group supervision and communicate trends and issues to the Regional Supervisor
  • Respond to critical incidents and special requests; flex schedule for urgent requests
  • Participate in in-services, training, Quality Improvement committees, initiatives, studies, pilot programs, and other contract activities
  • Complete documentation, certification and training processes, and use applicable technology
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Master’s Degree from an accredited Graduate Program in a Mental Health related field
  • Valid unrestricted independent counseling license from a State, District of Columbia, US Territory or Commonwealth that grants authority to provide counseling services as an independent practitioner
  • Less than 2 years of post-licensure clinical experience
  • Intermediate-level competencies in Microsoft Suite, Internet navigation, Smartphone/Tablet and application navigation, and video-conferencing platforms
  • Ability to engage and communicate with military members or children and respond quickly to emergent situations in military installation and school settings
  • Ability to traverse short and/or long distances, including rugged, outdoor or uneven locations
  • Ability to comply with site-specific requirements, including current immunizations or vaccinations when required
  • Proof of US Citizenship and fluency in English
  • Understanding, sensitivity and empathy for service members and their families
  • Ability to develop trusting, helping relationships and work with diverse racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Pass a National Agency Check and Inquiries (NACI) Clearance, Installation Records Check (IRC), Criminal Background Check, and FBI Fingerprints Check
  • Valid U.S. state vehicle operator’s license; may be required to obtain a U.S. military vehicle operator’s permit for TDY locations
  • Meet Magellan MFLC CYB criteria for experience with children and youth and specialty in child and adolescent development/psychology
  • School-assigned counselors must have prior work experience in a school setting
  • Current independent behavioral health clinician licensure meeting State, Commonwealth or customer-specific requirements
  • Valid in-state driver license
