About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Take technical ownership of infrastructure and operations as the first dedicated Senior DevOps / Platform Engineer
- Evolve the existing platform architecture, automation, and operational standards
- Operate self-administered Linux systems on European VMs and dedicated servers
- Integrate AWS, Azure, and GCP services
- Operate and further develop Docker Compose, networks, reverse proxies, and API gateways
- Develop Infrastructure as Code, CI/CD, and deployment workflows
- Implement automated checks, traceable configurations, and tested rollback procedures
- Take responsibility for PostgreSQL in production
- Analyze and optimize performance, connection pooling, and capacity
- Set up and validate reliable backup and restore procedures
- Further develop the self-hosted observability stack with metrics, logs, traces, and actionable alerting
- Implement least privilege, secrets management, vulnerability scanning, and patch management
- Implement technical measures and automated evidence collection for the ISO 27001 initiative
- Evaluate inference providers and operating models based on latency, throughput, cost, and reliability
- Build and operate an in-house LLM serving environment on GPU infrastructure over time
- Automate recurring operational tasks and document operating procedures
- Systematically investigate incidents and implement lasting improvements
- Collaborate with Engineering and the executive team without people-management responsibilities
Requirements
What you’ll need- Several years of experience operating SaaS systems in production on self-administered Linux servers
- Experience exclusively with fully managed cloud services is not sufficient
- Production experience with Docker and Docker Compose
- Experience with reverse proxies or API gateways such as Traefik or Kong
- Hands-on PostgreSQL operations experience
- Experience setting up and testing backups and restores independently
- Experience with performance analysis and connection pooling
- Infrastructure management with Terraform or comparable tools
- Experience developing CI/CD pipelines with GitHub Actions or similar systems
- Experience operating a self-hosted observability stack, for example with Grafana, Loki, and Prometheus
- Knowledge of security fundamentals for production systems, including permissions, secrets, and security updates
- Basic knowledge of RAG systems and common operational failure modes
- Ability to assess trade-offs between latency, throughput, cost, and operational effort in LLM serving
- Strong personal interest in the development of AI models and providers, along with the ability to critically evaluate their suitability
- Highly confident communication skills in English; German language skills are a plus
- Willingness to work from our Leipzig office at least three days per week with the team
- Nice to have: Hetzner, NixOS, or self-hosted Supabase
- Nice to have: technical measures and evidence for ISO 27001
- Nice to have: SRE practices such as SLOs, error budgets, and incident reviews
- Nice to have: GPU operations and LLM serving, for example with vLLM; production experience with GPUs or inference operations is not required

Comp & perks- Gross annual salary of €75,000–€85,000 plus VSOP participation
