About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Support regulatory and internal financial reporting for the Bank, its holding companies, and subsidiaries
- Assist with Accounting Department management and oversee staff and daily operations
- Process general ledger transactions and correct posting errors
- Manage holding company and subsidiary accounting, including dividends, interest payments, and financial statements
- Handle securities and fixed asset accounting
- Process and approve accounts payable, sales tax, use tax, and backup withholding reporting and payments
- Maintain the general ledger, open and close accounts, and design new financial reports
- Cross-train and provide backup coverage for department staff
- Complete daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual accounting tasks accurately and on time
- Prepare financial reports for FHLB, FDIC Call Report, DIF, Commissioner of Banks, Federal Reserve, and Internal Revenue Service
- Assist internal, external, and regulatory auditors by gathering requested materials
- Assist with federal and state tax accounting, tax provisions, estimated tax payments, and deferred tax assets or liabilities
- Authorize incoming and outgoing domestic operational wires using WITS wire automation software
- Provide backup for investment portfolio accounting, including payments, purchases, sales, maturities, safekeeping, and system maintenance
- Oversee resolution of outstanding reconciliation items
- Lead and participate in departmental projects
- Handle sensitive and confidential information in compliance with Bank policies and procedures
- Maintain compliance with Bank Secrecy Act regulations, regulatory standards, and risk controls
- Supervise assigned staff, direct work, identify training needs, and provide training
- Review and approve biweekly timecards and team time-off requests
- Complete performance checkpoints and recommend employment decisions
- Coach, counsel, discipline, and develop staff
- Review departmental procedures and recommend productivity and efficiency improvements
- Oversee daily department operations and ensure required tasks are completed accurately
- Report to the VP Controller
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance required
- Six to eight years of accounting or financial management experience in banking, financial services, or public accounting preferred
- Strong knowledge of GAAP
- Experience with financial and regulatory reporting
- Advanced Excel skills
- Strong proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications
- Comfort using and learning Call Report and database software, Oracle, and iDashboard
- Leadership, supervisory, coaching, or employee development experience preferred
- Self-motivated, with a strong desire to learn and advance
- Ability to organize and manage multiple tasks independently and meet deadlines despite frequent interruptions
- Strong attention to detail
- Knowledge of administrative practices and office procedures
- Ability to operate standard office equipment
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to communicate goals and initiatives to staff and management
- Effective leadership, team building, and coaching skills
