About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the infrastructure for a K8s-based SaaS for enterprise clients
- Fine-tune the interaction between HikariCP, ProxySQL, and XtraDB
- Optimize multiplexing, query routing, and connection pooling to eliminate latency spikes
- Identify and resolve row-level contention and long-running transactions in DB-backed JobRunr/Quartz queues
- Partner with backend teams to optimize Hibernate SQL generation and connection usage
- Manage the Kubernetes cluster for high availability
- Harden pod termination logic and resource scheduling so background workers do not impact API stability
- Help define the roadmap for moving from DB-backed queues to high-throughput messaging such as NATS, RabbitMQ, or Redis
Requirements
What you’ll need- Expertise configuring ProxySQL mysql_query_rules and hostgroups
- Understanding of XtraDB/InnoDB locking models
- Ability to interpret PERCONA_RECAP or slow query logs
- Understanding of the HikariCP lifecycle
- Understanding of how Hibernate/JPA manages transactions
- Ability to identify connection leaks and unoptimized persistence contexts
- Kubernetes expertise, including kubectl
- Understanding of mapping Kubernetes service discovery to ProxySQL backends
- Understanding of graceful shutdowns in containerized environments
- Proficiency in Infrastructure as Code, for example Helm
- Experience with Prometheus/Grafana and Golden Signals observability
