About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Create 3D CAD models, engineering drawings, and technical specifications for mechanical parts, assemblies, and systems
- Apply Design for Manufacturing principles to optimize designs for ease, speed, and cost of production
- Develop and oversee machine part builds
- Conduct physical and virtual testing, including FEA analysis, and refine designs based on feedback
- Collaborate with manufacturing, materials, quality, and production teams to resolve design-to-production issues
- Prepare bills of materials, engineering drawings, layouts, and technical documentation
- Apply GD&T, tolerance analysis, and conduct technical reviews
- Assist with process validation, equipment setup, troubleshooting, and production start-up
- Manage timelines, budgets, and resources for design and development projects
- Set up team reviews and process sign-offs
- Translate project requirements into mechanical design specifications
- Coordinate with manufacturing teams to ensure production readiness
- Document design iterations and provide multiple proposals with pros and cons
- Ensure designs meet regulatory, safety, and quality standards
Requirements
What you’ll need- 2-year associate degree in mechanical engineering with CAD skills required; bachelor’s degree preferred
- 4+ years of mechanical design engineering experience
- Experience designing manufacturing equipment, machinery, tooling, or fixtures preferred
- Experience taking designs from concept through fabrication, assembly, testing, installation, and production support
- Hands-on experience applying DFM/DFA principles and troubleshooting or improving manufacturing equipment
- Experience collaborating with manufacturing, quality, maintenance, fabrication, and production teams
- Proficiency in 3D CAD and engineering drawings; Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD preferred
- Strong knowledge of GD&T, tolerance analysis, BOMs, and mechanical design documentation
- Practical knowledge of machining, welding/fabrication, sheet metal, assembly, and material/component selection
- Experience with mechanical design calculations, equipment troubleshooting, and FEA/simulation; FEA experience preferred
