About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Lead multidisciplinary teams building the Traffic Events Detection product
- Drive day-to-day team operations, project management, and sprint planning
- Deliver complex, high-impact projects and provide technical expertise and mentorship
- Manage on-call operational best practices
- Develop features addressing internal and external customer needs
- Hire, retain, mentor, and develop team members
- Align company, product, and team objectives with stakeholders
- Partner with Product and Engineering on long-term business strategy
- Establish, track, and iterate on operational metrics
- Define and promote engineering best practices across Mapbox
- Foster collaboration, innovation, diversity, and data-driven decision-making
- Build systems using high-scale backend services, data pipelines, and AI Agentic workflows to detect, validate, and deliver live road updates
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or equivalent practical hands-on engineering experience
- 5+ years of people management experience
- Experience managing remote engineering teams and delivering product and business outcomes
- Deep knowledge and experience building scalable web services and data pipelines in AWS
- Experience driving monitoring, metrics, triage, customer issue resolution, continuous improvement, interfaces, documentation, test coverage, and code reviews
- Experience leading cross-functional teams of 5+ people
- Strong written and verbal communication
- Ability to hire, retain, mentor, and develop diverse engineering talent
- Ability to lead product strategy and execution
- Customer-focused approach
- Legally authorized to work in the country for which applying
