About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Design, develop, implement, and test complex software solutions using modern engineering practices, coding standards, and test-driven development principles
Collaborate with architects and senior engineers on technical design discussions and scalable solutions
Create comprehensive unit and integration tests
Participate in peer code reviews
Translate business goals into technical requirements and select appropriate tools and technologies
Partner with testers and quality assurance teams to support code quality, user acceptance testing, and reliable releases
Stay current on emerging technologies and industry trends
Contribute to knowledge-sharing initiatives and continuous learning
Identify, troubleshoot, and resolve defects
Develop and execute quality control processes
Help advance MAPFRE's Claims technology platform through scalable, data-driven solutions
Streamline claims processing and support integration across enterprise systems
Work with software engineers, product managers, and business stakeholders in a cross-functional Agile team
Take ownership of technical decisions and contribute to system design and architecture

Requirements

What you’ll need

Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a related technical field required
5+ years of hands-on experience developing software solutions using relevant programming languages and applying core software engineering principles
Experience contributing to projects comparable in scope and complexity to those supported by the Mapfre Engineer II/III team
Experience working within Agile development environments
Experience with collaboration and productivity tools such as Jira, Confluence, Lucid, GitHub, and Microsoft Copilot is strongly preferred
Experience with AWS Cloud Environment, including Lambda, Fargate, and DynamoDB
Strong proficiency in Java 8 or later
Experience with Java 17 and Java 25, including records, sealed classes, and virtual threads, is preferred
Experience with Angular
Experience designing and consuming RESTful and SOAP web services and building system integrations
Proficiency with relational databases and SQL, including Oracle and SQL Server
Experience with Git and CI/CD tools such as Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and AWS CodePipeline
Experience using AI-assisted development tools such as GitHub Copilot, Claude, and Claude Code
Guidewire experience, including Policy Center, Claim Center, or Billing Center and Guidewire Cloud platform, is preferred
Ability to mentor junior engineers and contribute to technical design decisions
Knowledge of the insurance domain is a plus
