About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Manage assigned investigative tasks across Casualty, Physical Damage, No-Fault, Commercial/CCU, and Property claims
  • Conduct investigations into Medical Provider, Underwriting, Agency, and other investigative matters
  • Build working relationships with federal, state, and local law enforcement
  • Participate in fraud-fighting organizations
  • Provide timely, professional in-person contact with customers and the public
  • Conduct thorough investigations to determine fraud, evaluate coverage and liability, and identify contributors or co-defendants
  • Take recorded or written statements and conduct Examinations Under Oath (EUOs)
  • Perform locus investigations, site analyses, diagrams, scarring photography, EDR downloads, witness canvasses, and dram shop investigations
  • Maintain current diaries, meet SIU productivity and reporting standards, complete field work, and submit accurate expense reports
  • Recommend automation systems, procedures, and process improvements
  • Maintain proficiency in Personal and Commercial policies, statutes, and case decisions
  • Identify potentially fraudulent claims and complete investigations
  • Support defense counsel with trials, depositions, mediations, and EUOs
  • Conduct coverage investigations involving endorsements, limitations, exclusions, garaging, household member, and regular-use issues
  • Research local ordinances and rules of the road
  • Assist insureds with interrogatories during litigation
  • Mentor less experienced adjusters and support professional development
  • Present cases in roundtable meetings and recommend actions to resolve files
  • Improve workflows, operating systems, and claims service delivery
  • Train other claims personnel as needed
  • Cooperate with law enforcement and other carriers
  • Keep claims personnel informed of assignment delays and communicate clearly with customers, claimants, investigators, and attorneys

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree or a professional level of knowledge in a specialized field, or equivalent related experience
  • Four to six years of experience, or an associate degree plus six to eight years of experience
  • Minimum of four years of claims-adjusting experience involving Physical Damage, PIP, Casualty, and SIU-related issues, and/or five years of professional investigative experience with a law enforcement agency
  • Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice or a related field is highly desirable
  • Knowledge of IFB and NICB investigative capabilities and reporting requirements is preferred
  • Knowledge and proper use of M.G.L. Chapter 175, Section 113H, or similar state-specific fraud statutes
  • Maintain a valid driver’s license
  • Personal or company vehicle in good mechanical condition with professional appearance
  • Proficiency in Claims Operational Systems, social media research, and SIU software applications
  • Advanced interviewing skills
  • Knowledge of Personal and Commercial policies, relevant statutes, and case decisions
  • Knowledge of automobile design and damage repair
  • Knowledge of legal issues involving fraud and arson
  • Ability to work regularly away from the office and/or outdoors during core and non-core business hours
  • Ability to work outside assigned territory or regularly scheduled hours based on business needs
  • Ability to attend industry and law enforcement seminars and participate in industry organizations and meetings
