About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Own the delivery strategy for the team and facilitate collaboration between product, design, and engineering across payments products
- Clarify requirements, pressure-test designs, and contribute directly when needed
- Lead and develop the team by fostering a high-performance culture, removing obstacles, and optimizing team processes
- Coach engineers on using AI for code generation, debugging, and testing while maintaining quality and technical judgment
- Ensure accountability for support and operations across owned payment systems
- Monitor customer feedback, payment issues, banking partners, and card partners
- Use operational data to identify recurring pain points and advocate for resources to address them
- Contribute to technical strategy and architectural decisions
- Balance business needs, security and compliance requirements, and software development excellence
- Drive clarity through ambiguity and ensure the team has context for confident decisions
Requirements
What you’ll need- 8+ years of software engineering experience
- At least 3 years in an engineering management or tech lead role
- Proven track record of leading and growing engineering teams, with a focus on delivery, quality, and culture
- Experience building or operating payments or fintech systems, such as ACH money movement, card issuing, or virtual card programs
- Strong software development background with experience in a backend framework like Spring Boot and/or JavaScript (React)
- Comfortable engaging in technical discussions and code reviews
- Experience working in a product-driven environment with cross-functional collaboration across product, design, and QA
- Ability to balance technical excellence with business objectives and manage trade-offs effectively
- Strong communication skills for conveying project status, risks, and technical concepts to technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Experience with cloud-based systems, distributed architectures, and AWS infrastructure
- Hands-on experience using AI coding agents such as Claude Code
- Background in restaurant technology or hospitality industry software
- Experience in a fast-growing SaaS or fintech startup environment
- Familiarity with AWS and cloud infrastructure
- Experience integrating with banking-as-a-service, card issuing, or payment processor partners
- Familiarity with payments compliance and risk, such as NACHA rules, PCI DSS, KYB/KYC, and reconciliation
