About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Support construction projects at the Knolls site within a multidisciplinary project team
  • Collaborate with project sponsors to develop and define project scope
  • Develop project specifications with multidisciplinary project teams
  • Develop and support project cost estimates
  • Perform engineering reviews of project drawings and design documentation
  • Provide structural engineering support throughout the construction phase of building and utility projects
  • Oversee architectural and engineering firms developing project concept designs
  • Oversee development and review of construction documents and associated cost estimates
  • Develop and review structural engineering calculations and contract documents
  • Support construction administration, including submittal reviews and Requests for Information (RFIs)
  • Support construction inspections and resolve engineering issues encountered during construction
  • Apply applicable building codes and engineering standards to structural design and construction activities
  • Coordinate and interact with facility staff and contractors throughout project execution

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor of Science degree in Structural Engineering
  • Experience performing structural engineering tasks
  • Experience developing contract documents, engineering calculations, and cost estimates
  • Working knowledge of applicable building codes and standards
  • Experience with construction administration, including submittal reviews, Requests for Information (RFIs), construction inspections, and related construction-phase engineering activities
  • An active DOE L clearance or active DoD Secret or above (desired)
  • Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification and/or Professional Engineer (P.E.) license (desired)
  • Engineering consulting experience (desired)
  • Working knowledge of New York State Building Codes (desired)
  • Working knowledge of AISC standards (desired)
  • Working knowledge of ASCE standards (desired)
