About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assess the impact of earthquakes, floods, wildfires, hurricanes, and other hazard scenarios on insurers’ property damage and financial losses
- Collaborate on catastrophe risk management, underwriting support, live event impacts, and reinsurance decision-making
- Organize and validate client data, load data into predictive models, run models, and share insights with senior colleagues
- Compile narratives to help clients understand their degree of risk
- Perform calculations and draw conclusions from client data to assess modeled outcomes in support of reinsurance transactions
- Manage catastrophe modeling projects from inception to completion
- Develop region-based or peril-based catastrophe risk management knowledge through research or experience
- Participate in internal initiatives and provide ideas and feedback
- Establish and maintain relationships with colleagues and stakeholders
Requirements
What you’ll need- Progress towards a Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative or natural sciences field such as applied mathematics, statistics, engineering, operations research, finance, economics, data science, computer science, or meteorology, or demonstrated ability to learn new software and analytical concepts quickly
- Expected graduation date of December 2027 or May 2028 is preferred
- Strong academic record
- Curiosity and proactive mindset
- Ability to lead internal initiatives and research projects to completion
- Robust data management skills, including manipulating, interpreting, and extrapolating complex data
- Superior communication and presentation skills
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills and attention to detail with financial aptitude
- Collaborative, team-oriented mindset and effective interpersonal skills
- Microsoft Office skills, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
- Capacity to progress multiple projects simultaneously
- Legal work authorization to work in the U.S. on a permanent and ongoing basis without sponsorship now or in the future
