About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide Level 2 support for Databricks workspaces, clusters, jobs/workflows, pools, libraries, runtime versions, and configurations across development, test, and production environments
- Monitor platform health and job execution; respond to alerts and production issues within defined SLAs
- Troubleshoot cluster start failures, job failures, library conflicts, connectivity errors, quota/limit constraints, and permission issues
- Escalate complex issues to L3, engineering, or vendors with diagnostics, logs, and reproduction steps
- Support Unity Catalog operations and data access controls
- Handle incidents, service requests, and problems through ITSM processes
- Maintain accurate ticket notes and customer communications
- Contribute to root cause analysis, corrective/preventive actions, and continuous improvement
- Perform standard changes such as runtime upgrades, library updates, cluster policy changes, and Unity Catalog permission updates
- Maintain and update runbooks, SOPs, onboarding guides, and troubleshooting knowledge articles
- Participate in on-call rotation and/or shift coverage for production workloads
- Partner with Cloud and Data Engineering teams to deliver a stable, compliant, and cost-effective Databricks platform
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent practical experience
- 7–10 years of experience in platform operations, cloud operations, or data platform support
- Exposure to Databricks and/or Apache Spark ecosystems
- Hands-on troubleshooting of job/workflow failures, cluster start/termination issues, and library/dependency management
- Spark configuration basics and performance triage at an L2 level
- Working knowledge of AWS and Azure fundamentals, including IAM/identity, networking, storage, encryption, and key management
- Familiarity with access controls, secrets handling, and audit logging
- Scripting/automation skills using Python and/or PySpark/PowerShell
- Familiarity with governance concepts, including Unity Catalog basics and data access controls
- Experience with ITIL-aligned incident, problem, and change management practices
- Experience maintaining operational documentation
- Experience with DynamoDB is a plus
- Ability to participate in on-call rotation and/or shift coverage
- Strong customer support mindset and ability to communicate with technical and non-technical stakeholders
- Ability to prioritize multiple production issues and meet SLAs
- Collaborative approach across Cloud, Security, and Data Engineering teams
