About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Interface with patients, family members, physicians, visitors, and other guests in a courteous and professional manner
  • Register patients in the Practice Management Information System (PMIS), obtaining and verifying demographic and insurance information
  • Review electronic eligibility verification responses to ensure insurance coverage is active
  • Present patients with appropriate paperwork based on appointment type and registration status
  • Monitor the reception area and communicate schedule adjustments
  • Maintain a neat and orderly waiting area
  • Answer incoming phone calls, take and deliver messages, triage calls, and check voicemail
  • Process patients through computer-based scheduling systems for appointments, surgeries, procedures, and testing
  • Ensure security and accuracy of patient files, payments, and databases
  • Communicate with physicians’ offices and staff; manage tasks through the EHR and Patient Portal
  • Review patient accounts and collect co-payments, deductibles, and outstanding balances
  • Post payments in PMIS and reconcile records and receipts at the end of each shift
  • Respond to centralized billing office information requests for timely and accurate claims submission
  • Schedule follow-up appointments, diagnostic testing, and other patient services
  • Ensure services are authorized and required referrals are active
  • Support government incentive programs by collecting and recording required data and communicating with patients
  • Assist with physician billing entry and reconciliation of inpatient, outpatient, and surgical charges
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • High School Diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of one year medical office experience preferred
  • Multi-specialty office experience preferred
  • Experience in a customer service setting preferred
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs preferred
  • Constant (67-100% of workday) sitting and use of arms and hands
  • Occasional (0-33% of workday) standing, walking, bending, squatting
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 10 lbs.

  • Ability to communicate effectively and collaborate with a multi-disciplinary team
