About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Supervise and provide technical oversight for design and architectural components of MSBA Core Program projects
- Support the Design Director in assessing and communicating impacts of building and energy code updates
- Manage the Designer Selection Panel and ensure compliance with policies, procedures, and statutory requirements
- Participate in review panels, task forces, and technical studies
- Procure and manage technical services, educational program, and other consultants; develop budgets and approve invoices
- Manage internal technical review cycles for design development and construction documents
- Develop and manage the Green Schools Program and sustainability policies
- Prepare memoranda and documentation of review findings and recommendations
- Convene meetings with MSBA staff, consultants, Owner’s Project Managers, and school district representatives
- Conduct site visits, building assessments, and educational program space reviews of K-12 facilities
- Provide supervisory review and quality assurance of technical comments and recommendations
- Evaluate design documentation and serve as a technical resource to communities
- Collaborate with project managers, cost estimators, and construction specialists through design, construction, and commissioning
- Develop construction and modernization programs, technical design guidelines, standards, and regulations
- Coordinate training programs, external outreach, publications, and staff onboarding
- Monitor grants, project recommendations, Board materials, project documentation, payments, schedules, budgets, and consultant contract compliance
- Supervise, coach, and evaluate Design Project Manager 3 and other Design Team staff
Requirements
What you’ll need- Bachelor’s degree in architecture, engineering, project management, construction, or a field related to building planning and design
- Ten (10) years of experience in building design, construction, project management, or other applicable disciplines
- Two (2) years in a supervisory project management capacity
- Thorough knowledge of the design process from conceptual phases through construction documents
- Demonstrated organization and time management, balancing multiple priorities, managing deadlines, and maintaining structured workflows in fast-paced environments
- Ability to work independently and collaborate as part of a team; flexibility, accountability, and adaptability
- Written and verbal communication skills, conveying complex information clearly and professionally
- Ability to conduct technical reviews with attention to detail, accuracy, completeness, and compliance with program requirements and standards
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office 365 applications, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams, and Outlook
- Preferred: experience with Massachusetts public construction and/or educational facilities; knowledge of Massachusetts public procurement and bidding laws; government experience
- Preferred: Massachusetts Registered Architect
- Tableau knowledge is a plus
