About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Screen and develop new matters aligned with Gun Violence Prevention Unit enforcement priorities, including civil consumer protection investigations and enforcement matters
  • Lead complex investigations into individual, corporate, and industry conduct, including potentially unfair or deceptive practices, consumer harms, and regulatory noncompliance
  • Manage complex, large-scale investigations through strategic document and data analysis, witness interviews, expert consultation, and coordination with government partners
  • Analyze industry structures, business models, marketing and sales practices, distribution systems, and compliance programs
  • Draft and litigate enforcement matters in state and federal court, including pleadings, motions, discovery, evidentiary proceedings, and trial preparation
  • Negotiate and enforce settlements and other resolutions
  • Coordinate with teams across the Attorney General’s Office and other government and regulatory partners
  • Support multistate, multi-party, and industry-wide investigations or coordinated actions with other Attorneys General
  • Support legislative, regulatory, policy, and public education initiatives through legal research, analysis, drafting, and strategic stakeholder engagement
  • Engage with community stakeholders, including through developing and implementing communications strategies
  • Work closely with the Gun Violence Prevention Unit Director

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be a member of the Massachusetts bar or eligible for admission in short order
  • Minimum of five (5) years of full-time legal experience
  • Substantial experience with complex investigations and litigation experience preferred
  • Demonstrated ability to investigate sophisticated business conduct, develop comprehensive factual records, and translate investigations into litigation, negotiated resolutions, or other enforcement outcomes
  • Experience managing document- and data-intensive matters, including complex discovery, electronic records, expert issues, and multiple witnesses or parties, strongly preferred
  • Civil enforcement experience required
  • Experience with criminal and/or regulatory enforcement considered a plus
  • Experience with regulated industries, multistate Attorney General matters, or other large-scale actions considered a plus
  • Interest in the Unit’s public safety mission and ability to master new legal, factual, and regulatory subject matter
  • Outstanding research, writing, litigation, and advocacy skills
  • Ability to work effectively and respectfully with people from diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Ability to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities served and interest in supporting a respectful, diverse, equitable, and inclusive work environment
