About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Investigate and prosecute complex criminal cases within Western Massachusetts, with a focus on gaming
  • Investigate and prosecute crimes originating at or connected to casinos, including firearm-related crimes, narcotics, domestic violence, sexual assaults, sophisticated larcenies, gaming-related financial crime, organized crime, corruption, and money laundering
  • Lead and coordinate investigations and prosecutions with Massachusetts State Police and other prosecutors, victim/witness advocates, paralegals, and support staff
  • Handle a complex caseload
  • Screen potential cases
  • Foster relationships with industry stakeholders
  • Participate in training
  • Provide occasional district court coverage
  • Work with federal, state, and local law enforcement partners
  • Travel as needed to other areas of the Commonwealth in support of investigations

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Must be a member of the Massachusetts bar and a practicing attorney
  • At least five (5) years of experience as an attorney, preferably in state criminal practice
  • Knowledge of, or ability to gain understanding of, Massachusetts statutes involving money laundering, all aspects of illegal gaming, larceny, domestic violence, and sexual assault is highly desirable
  • Trial experience in Superior Court or U.S. District Court is highly desirable
  • Ability to handle a large and advanced caseload and comfortable appearing in court
  • Ability to conduct long- and short-term investigations, including lengthy grand jury investigations
  • Excellent legal writing experience and communication skills
  • Self-motivated, team-player, disciplined, ethical, and willing to learn, with the ability to exercise sound judgment in decision-making
  • Ability to demonstrate a connection to the people and communities served and an interest in supporting a respectful and inclusive work environment
  • Valid Massachusetts Driver’s License required
