About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

Lead hands-on security work across Mathspace’s product, cloud, and company systems
Map the attack surface and sensitive data, prioritise risks, and work with engineers on fixes in code, cloud configuration, and the build pipeline
Build AI-assisted workflows for triage, code review, advisory analysis, and evidence collection
Apply controls addressing data, permissions, prompt injection, and data leakage risks
Strengthen SSO, MFA, privileged access, onboarding, offboarding, and device management
Improve monitoring, respond to emerging threats, and create incident-response playbooks
Run a SOC 2 and ISO 27001 gap assessment, create a practical roadmap, and automate evidence collection
Support school and district security questionnaires and maintain accurate security claims
Drive day-to-day security work as an individual contributor, reporting to the CTO and collaborating with engineering and specialist partners
Provide short-notice incident availability for the first six months, then participate in an on-call rotation

Requirements

What you’ll need

Solid experience in cloud and web application security, ideally with AWS and Python
Ability to read unfamiliar code, reason about permissions, and write automation
Daily use of AI tools and understanding of when to trust them
Understanding of risks such as prompt injection and data leakage
Good judgement about urgency and prioritisation
Clear communication with engineers and leadership
Ability to work independently in a small team
Ability to work at least six months a year from Cyprus
Nice to have: experience with SOC 2, ISO 27001 or a similar framework
Nice to have: device management, detection, or incident response experience
Nice to have: experience as the first security hire
Reachability at short notice for urgent security issues during the first six months
Willingness to join an on-call rotation thereafter
Demonstrated ability; no particular degree, certification, or previous employer required
