About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Work directly with architects, designers, and verification engineers to identify needs and decide what to build
  • Improve Bluespec, its type system, libraries, and compiler
  • Improve compile speed, output stability and reproducibility, and language features that catch design errors earlier
  • Build tools connecting compiler design knowledge to simulation and formal verification
  • Develop assertions, compiler-generated checks and formal assumptions, and Rust-reference-model-to-RTL verification flows
  • Build debugging, editor, and build tools for hardware engineers
  • Own testing and releases of the compiler and libraries
  • Fix issues in the compiler, libraries, or shared flows so problems do not recur
  • Contribute appropriate fixes and features upstream to the open-source compiler
  • Help determine future team priorities based on changing hardware-team needs
  • Work on mature Haskell compiler code while maintaining tapeout safety and supporting the next chip

  • Strong production Haskell experience in a large codebase
  • Strong production Rust experience

  • Experience building tools that other engineers depend on
  • Comfortable with Python, build systems (Bazel preferred), and CI
  • Ability to work on-site in Mountain View, CA or remotely
  • Occasional travel: a few trips per year
  • Capacity to perform job functions in compliance with U.S. export control laws without obtaining a license
  • Experience with compilers, compiler verification, translation validation, verified compilers, systematic compiler testing, or fuzzing is a bonus
  • Contributions to bsc, GHC, rustc, or another production compiler are a bonus
  • Experience with Bluespec, Chisel, Clash, or another high-level hardware language is a bonus
  • Experience with hardware verification tools and methods is a bonus
  • Experience with interactive theorem provers or mechanized hardware semantics is a bonus
  • Experience with SAT or SMT solvers in a type checker or compiler pass is a bonus
  • Experience with language servers, debuggers, or waveform tools is a bonus
  • Open-source hardware tools experience is a bonus
