About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Diagnose and fix issues across the OS, network, and cloud stack
- Reason about routing, DNS, firewalls, VPCs, private connectivity, and trust boundaries
- Improve, harden, and extend existing network and host configuration
- Write internal tools, scripts, and small services
- Build integrations against unfamiliar protocols and codebases
- Pair with the system owner on compute, CI, shared storage, developer VMs, and Terraform-managed cloud infrastructure
- Take ownership of infrastructure areas and provide coverage when needed
- Execute and review production changes carefully
- Onboard new hires and debug their environment problems
- Troubleshoot issues through multiple layers of the stack
- Support infrastructure for MatX's custom chip design and semiconductor engineering work
Requirements
What you’ll need- Deep Linux systems knowledge, including debugging from userspace to syscalls and routing tables
- Experience with namespaces, mounts, and process semantics
- Deep networking knowledge: VPCs, DNS, firewalls, shared filesystems, and private connectivity
- Strong generalist systems and infrastructure instincts
- Infrastructure-as-code experience on a major cloud
- Production experience reading plans, reasoning about drift, and executing migrations without taking the cluster down
- Terraform on GCP experience is a plus; AWS, Azure, or other IaC experience is acceptable
- Threat-modeling instincts for shared infrastructure
- Operational thinking around apply ordering, coordination windows, and failure modes
- Strong Git/rebase workflow; ability to split unrelated work into separate PRs
- Ability to learn unfamiliar build systems, protocols, and codebases
- Ability to read upstream source, build rules, Rust errors, and CI workflows
- U.S. work authorization/export-control eligibility required; position requires compliance with U.S. export control laws without obtaining a license
- Bonus: GCP IAM, managed compute, identity-aware proxies
- Bonus: Bazel, remote build/cache internals, Buildbarn or equivalent
- Bonus: batch compute or job schedulers such as HPC, Slurm, Nomad, or Kubernetes batch
