About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, build, and maintain features across Rails API services, TypeScript/Node services, a GraphQL gateway, and React frontends
- Own integrations with external platforms, including data mapping, synchronization, reconciliation, retries, and idempotency
- Design and evolve asynchronous, multi-step workflows using RabbitMQ, SNS/SQS, Sidekiq, and saga-style orchestration
- Maintain correctness and security of the multi-tenant platform
- Lead technical design through design documents and architecture decision records
- Identify and reduce technical debt while improving service boundaries, module design, test coverage, and developer experience
- Conduct code reviews and help establish engineering standards
- Participate in on-call rotation, lead incident response, and implement root-cause fixes
- Use and improve observability tools and CI/CD
- Work with Customer Support & Success on lender-reported escalations and external LOS synchronization issues
- Partner with Product Managers to refine requirements and identify edge cases
- Collaborate with UI/UX Designers to deliver polished, accessible interfaces
- Mentor engineers through pairing, code review, and design feedback
- Lead AI-assisted engineering using Claude Code, Cursor, and Codex
- Build and maintain shared AI tooling, including agent instruction files, reusable skills and prompts, MCP servers, and automated workflows
- Establish AI-use guardrails and verify agent output
Requirements
What you’ll need- 7+ years building and running production web applications
- Deep experience with Ruby on Rails, including API-only services, ActiveRecord, PostgreSQL, background jobs, and RSpec
- Experience shipping UI with React and TypeScript
- Experience with GraphQL; Apollo ideally
- Experience building distributed, event-driven systems
- Knowledge of retries, idempotency, and eventual consistency
- Experience with third-party integrations and partner APIs, including REST, SOAP, and webhooks
- Strong security and multi-tenant data isolation instincts
- Advanced daily use of AI and agentic coding tools
- Ability to structure context for agents and verify their output
- Ability to write design documents and explain production incidents clearly
- Ownership of on-call, incident response, observability, and blameless postmortems
- Bonus: experience in mortgage technology or regulated, integration-heavy domains
- Bonus: familiarity with LOS platforms (Encompass, MortgageBot, Byte) or MISMO standards
- Bonus: Node.js/TypeScript services, Elasticsearch, Redis, Docker, AWS, CI/CD, saga or workflow orchestration patterns
