About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide legal research and reference services to firm lawyers, students, and internal departments
  • Conduct research and retrieve information quickly and cost-effectively
  • Docket time for work performed for charge back to client files
  • Guide researchers with search strategies and selection and use of online and print information resources and technology
  • Design and execute teaching, training, and orientation regarding research methodology and resources for students and lawyers
  • Stay abreast of information resources and technology
  • Identify, examine, and evaluate publications and electronic resources for library services
  • Provide firm-wide current awareness services, including alerts and newsletters
  • Collect, maintain, and deliver information to achieve a competitive edge
  • Collaborate with other research specialists on mandates and project-related work
  • Mentor and onboard library team members and law students in research methodologies and resources
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in legal research
  • Masters degree in library and/or information studies or law bachelor degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience, preferably in a corporate or legal environment
  • Experience in an automated library environment using an integrated library management system
  • Familiarity with the law, legal systems and legal processes of Canada
  • Familiarity with the law, legal systems and legal processes of the United States is an asset
  • Familiarity with Commonwealth/civil law jurisdictions
  • Familiarity with legal and business research methodologies and resources in print and electronic formats
  • Familiarity with free and fee-based online legal and business information resources, including Lexis Advance Quicklaw, WestlawNext Canada, HeinOnline, and Avantis
  • High-level analytical skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • JD or law degree and at least 10 years of legal research experience in a professional services environment for the Analyst title
