About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Design, develop, and maintain scalable ETL/ELT pipelines on Databricks using PySpark and Python following a Bronze/Silver/Gold lakehouse pattern
  • Ingest, parse, transform, and map 837I/P/D claims, 835 remittance advice, and EMR data to the MDaudit data model
  • Build and optimize Snowflake data models, SQL transformations, and warehousing processes
  • Convert and migrate data from legacy systems and databases such as Microsoft SQL Server
  • Develop reusable Python, PySpark, and SQL frameworks, tools, and automation
  • Implement automated data validation, quality checks, and reconciliation; resolve discrepancies
  • Monitor, maintain, and troubleshoot customer data feeds and file processing
  • Integrate and validate EMR data, including Epic, Cerner, Meditech, and Athenahealth, with claims data
  • Collaborate with Implementation, Product, Support, and IT teams on requirements, data mapping, and priorities
  • Resolve onboarding escalations through root-cause analysis and permanent fixes
  • Track onboarding work items, raise risks, and provide status updates to internal stakeholders
  • Document pipelines, data flows, and runbooks and transition completed work to Support
  • Mentor junior engineers, conduct code reviews, and share technical knowledge
  • Support HIPAA compliance, regulatory requirements, data integrity, and security

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Data Science, Health Informatics, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent experience
  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, ETL/ELT, and data warehousing
  • 3+ years of programming experience with Python and advanced SQL
  • 2+ years of hands-on experience with Databricks, including Delta Lake, notebooks, and jobs/workflows, and PySpark
  • Working experience with Snowflake, including data modeling and SQL transformations
  • 2+ years of healthcare industry experience, preferably in revenue cycle management (RCM)
  • Solid understanding of healthcare billing processes, claims lifecycle, and reimbursement models
  • Working knowledge of healthcare EDI (X12) transaction data and claims/remittance processing
  • Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS or Microsoft Azure
  • Strong understanding of healthcare revenue cycle processes and experience with SaaS applications
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication with technical and non-technical colleagues
  • Collaborative, team-oriented working style
  • Comfort working in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to adhere to HIPAA and other regulatory requirements and maintain data integrity and security
