About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Serve as first point of intake for employee relations matters
  • Conduct initial assessments and routine investigations, maintain documentation, and partner with the Director of People Operations on complex or high-risk matters
  • Advise managers on performance conversations, attendance, accommodations, and policy application
  • Administer leaves of absence end-to-end across all states of operation, including FMLA, CFRA, PDL, and state paid leave programs
  • Coordinate leave administration with payroll and benefits vendors
  • Manage the interactive process for workplace accommodations
  • Own the multi-state compliance calendar, including postings, state registrations, new-hire reporting, wage and hour requirements, EEO-1, and California pay data reporting
  • Monitor legislative and regulatory changes and translate them into policy and process updates
  • Maintain audit-ready I-9 records and personnel file standards
  • Own onboarding and offboarding execution
  • Serve as backup to the payroll administrator
  • Maintain HRIS data integrity and reporting, including headcount, turnover, and compliance metrics
  • Operate, test, and maintain automated people workflows across the HRIS and adjacent tools
  • Support new workflow builds and identify manual processes for automation
  • Maintain the employee handbook and policy library, partnering with the Director on updates and rollouts

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • At least 4 years of progressive HR generalist experience, including direct ownership of employee relations intake and leave administration
  • Demonstrated multi-state HR experience with strong working knowledge of California employment law, including wage and hour, protected leaves, and accommodation requirements
  • Experience administering HRIS platforms and building reporting from them
  • Comfort working inside configured workflows, rules, and integrations, with aptitude to learn new systems quickly
  • Evidence of improving a manual or repetitive process through better use of systems
  • Proven ability to handle highly sensitive matters with discretion, sound judgment, and complete documentation
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to manage concurrent deadlines across compliance, leave, and employee relations workstreams
  • Valid work authorization for the country in which applying
  • PHR, SHRM-CP, or equivalent HR certification (nice to have)
  • Experience in healthcare, medical-legal services, or another regulated multi-state environment (nice to have)
  • Experience with Rippling or workflow automation tools beyond core HRIS functionality (nice to have)
