About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Coordinate outreach programming, events, trainings, and library services
- Work with library managers, marketing staff, community agencies, businesses, schools, and organizations to promote library services
- Use project management and outcomes-based planning and evaluation tools to develop and assess events
- Deliver programs and trainings in person or via online tools
- Attend community organization meetings and build community networks
- Safely drive bookmobiles up to 34 feet long and delivery vans to remote service locations
- Assist patrons with information searches, reference services, technology instruction, library cards, circulation, holds, renewals, and account problems
- Maintain and create web content; recommend collection additions and discards
- Provide reference assistance, consultation, mentoring, and training to staff
- Write grants; create displays, bibliographies, and blogs; recommend budgets; request equipment and supplies; prepare statistical reports
- May assist the Library Manager with librarian duties and support departmental projects
Requirements
What you’ll need- Master of Library and Information Science
- Two or more years of experience working in a library (preferred)
- Skill in basic computer operation
- Valid driver’s license and good driving record
- Able to drive personal vehicle, large RV style bookmobile, or van to deliver programs and services
- Able to read, write, and speak Spanish fluently (preferred)
- Multicultural skills and sensitivities to ethnic, linguistic, and cultural groups (preferred)
- Knowledge of public library operations
- Knowledge of public library reference service
- Knowledge of literature
- Skill in reference interviewing
- Skill in reader’s advisory
- Knowledge of print and online reference resources
- Skill in using Innovative Interfaces, Inc.’s Sierra or other comparable automated library system
- Skill in using and troubleshooting a wide variety of digital devices, stationary and mobile
- Skill in instructing others how to use digital technology
- Skill in customer relations including dealing with difficult patrons and volatile situations
- Skill in Windows, MS Office Suite, and Publisher
- Able to foster a nonjudgmental, supportive environment for a diverse population of users by using patience and effective communication to assure a positive learning environment
- Able to operate various office equipment including copiers
- Able to plan and conduct age appropriate and culturally relevant programming
- Able to mentor and train staff
- Able to push a fully loaded book-cart weighing up to 200 lbs.
- Able to lift 50 lbs.
- Able to load materials onto a mobile services vehicle
- Able to drive large, delivery style vehicle
