About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide competent SHE advice and support to operational and administration teams
  • Implement and take responsibility for all SHE aspects on construction and non-construction contracts within the branches
  • Monitor compliance with policies, procedures and systems
  • Report non-compliance to managers and instil a strong health and safety culture among staff and subcontractors
  • Complete compliance audits to meet KPIs and ensure branch compliance
  • Produce audit reports detailing findings and appropriate actions
  • Liaise with Branch Managers to resolve audit findings
  • Develop working relationships with clients, staff and subcontractors
  • Deliver a high-quality SHE support service monitoring compliance with legislation, policies, procedures and systems
  • Deliver formal training to the wider team and business
  • Participate in initiatives to advance the SHE strategy
  • Travel regularly to support field-based teams across Croydon, Hammersmith & Fulham and Tower Hamlets

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • NEBOSH General or Construction Cert
  • Extensive experience in a SHE management role
  • Broad knowledge of SHE legislation, good working practices and safe systems of work
  • Proficiency with Word, Excel and PowerPoint, and use of general office equipment
  • Technical / Certified membership of IOSH
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Experience in Social Housing
  • Ability to communicate well at all levels within the Group and with subcontractors
  • Ability to use own initiative; confident, decisive, enthusiastic, reliable, patient and approachable
  • Willingness to develop self and others
  • Entitlement to work within the UK; Mears does not currently offer visa sponsorship
  • Candidates must complete relevant Background, Identity and Security checks before commencement
  • To drive a Mears vehicle, must be aged over 21, have held a licence over 3 months and have less than 9 points
