About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own application architecture for new development and partner with existing system owners
  • Make and document decisions on application structure, technology and framework choices, integration approaches, and service boundaries
  • Serve as escalation point for complex technical decisions
  • Design, build, and maintain shared frameworks, libraries, and abstractions
  • Own authentication, authorization, error handling, resiliency, logging, metrics, observability, integration standards, and service contracts
  • Write and review production code in PHP for existing systems and C#/.NET for new services and modernization
  • Define and uphold technical quality standards and assess technical debt and delivery tradeoffs
  • Partner with release and operations leadership to ensure production-safe changes
  • Mentor engineers through code reviews, pairing, and implementation-focused design discussions
  • Provide technical input on scoping and estimates and surface architectural risks
  • Collaborate with DevOps and infrastructure teams on deployment patterns, CI/CD evolution, and environment consistency
  • Communicate technical decisions to engineering leadership and stakeholders
  • Supervise and line-manage a small number of engineers while remaining primarily hands-on

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a strong record of hands-on development in production systems
  • Experience owning architectural decisions and technical direction for complex applications
  • Strong backend engineering experience using C# and .NET for building services and APIs
  • Experience designing and maintaining clean, well-defined APIs and service interfaces, including integrations with third-party systems
  • Hands-on experience with Microsoft Azure, including AKS (Azure Kubernetes Service) and core Azure integration and messaging services
  • Experience delivering applications using Docker containers and CI/CD pipelines
  • Strong experience with relational databases (Microsoft SQL Server), including schema design and data access patterns
  • Experience with event-driven or asynchronous architectures, including messaging-based systems
  • Comfort working in existing PHP codebases while leading migration to cloud-native C#/.NET services on Azure
  • Hands-on experience building agentic AI workflows in production, including agent frameworks, tool/function calling, RAG, and MCP (Model Context Protocol)
  • Ability to work from the Philadelphia, PA office on Tuesdays and Wednesdays
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer sponsorship
  • Preferred: Familiarity with IoT systems or telemetry-driven backends
  • Preferred: Experience integrating with Salesforce, e-commerce platforms, or other enterprise SaaS systems
  • Preferred: Working knowledge of Linux-based systems and system administration concepts
  • Preferred: Experience with monitoring, logging, and metrics in production environments
  • Preferred: Familiarity with PHP-based enterprise systems
  • Preferred: Experience helping teams adopt agentic AI, including agent standards, guardrails, shared context layers, RAG pipelines, MCP servers, and evaluation
