About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Drive engineering-wide technical and non-technical initiatives beyond the candidate's own teams
- Identify organizational bottlenecks, implement changes independently, and demonstrate measurable before-and-after results
- Enable engineers by creating conditions for ideas to surface, be heard, and move forward
- Remove blockers while preserving team autonomy
- Hire, onboard, and develop engineers at multiple levels
- Set clear individual performance standards and address underperformance early, openly, and fairly
- Advance AI-agent adoption, practices, and organizational capabilities
- Partner with product managers to ship intuitive, reliable, and well-built user experiences
Requirements
What you’ll need- 3+ years managing engineers in a product company (not agency, not outsourcing)
- Two or three examples of engineering or process change started independently, driven end to end, and measured, with impact beyond the candidate's own team
- Comfortable being hands-off: no code, no architecture ownership, no technical authority
- Experience working without a layer of team leads and architects, or experience removing that layer
- Experience handling underperformance early and transparently
- Experience growing senior-level engineers
- Agentic AI already part of daily work, with experience driving its adoption beyond oneself
- Ability to make decisions without complete information and prioritize sharply
- Open communication, including acknowledging personal mistakes
- Decisions grounded in logic, data, and multiple perspectives
- Fluent Russian
