About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Plan, direct and supervise team members in day-to-day store department operations
- Mentor and coach all team members
- Implement strategies to improve customer service and drive store sales
- Ensure customer needs are met and service is quick and efficient
- Maintain store appearance, product presentation and company standards
- Provide courteous, friendly and efficient service to customers and team members
- Manage staffing, selection and hiring to achieve staffing needs
- Promote succession planning, career paths and team-member development
- Participate in and remain accountable for promotion decisions
- Document and apply disciplinary actions and make discharge recommendations
- Manage department P&L, sales performance and shrink
- Communicate the Meijer Friendly Initiative in team meetings and conversations
- Train team members and ensure completion of required training
- Spend most of the time in-store communicating with customers and team members
- Promote a safe work environment
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
What you’ll need- High school diploma or its equivalent required
- 2-3 years of related retail experience
- One year of management experience
- Rotational assignments in other areas of the store such as meat, bakery, produce and deli; customer service and product flow experience helpful
- Demonstrated ability to communicate clear and precise direction to team members
- Demonstrated ability to resolve conflict by addressing root cause issues
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks
- Demonstrated ability to analyze financial and statistical information and use it to make informed decisions
- Demonstrated ability to teach suggestive selling
- Demonstrated ability to lead an organization that practices working safely at all times
- Demonstrated ability to mentor team members, including SDITs, hourly team members and team leaders
- Successful completion of all required certifications
- Reliable and consistent attendance required
