About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Educate a small classroom of students in a self-contained setting
- Provide five hours of virtual direct instruction per day, plus flexible time for lesson planning, grading, and IEP work
- Provide a differentiated learning environment
- Deliver project-based learning instruction in a virtual setting
- Collaborate with curriculum, clinical, administrative, teaching, and support staff
- Personalize learning for students
- Provide a social-emotional learning environment
- Teach approximately 10 students with paraprofessional support
- Work Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., following a 10-month school calendar
Requirements
What you’ll need- REQUIRED: Illinois PEL with LBS1 (Learning Behavior Specialist I), i.e. Special Education Teacher Certification, or the ability to obtain the Illinois PEL through out-of-state license reciprocity
- Proficiency with video-conferencing platforms (Zoom, Google Meet, Microsoft Teams)
- Flexibility to teach multiple grade levels as student populations change
- Ability to work with youth with emotional/behavioral/cognitive, and academic difficulties
- Ability to create/design digital content for engaging online lessons
- Strong classroom-management techniques adapted for virtual settings
- Skilled in differentiating instruction for diverse learners
- Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate and build relationships across all levels and with diverse personalities
- Ability to teach using Digital Curriculum & Assessment tools
- Ability to troubleshoot basic technology issues, manage digital file storage, navigate browser extensions, and perform basic computer troubleshooting
- Familiarity with assistive technology tools (text-to-speech, speech-to-text, screen readers, AAC apps, accessibility settings)
- Strong organizational skills and precise documentation with ability to maintain accurate records in a virtual environment
