About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Own the data behind Mercuryo’s payments business from the first product log to the final dashboard
  • Work with Operations, Finance, Partnerships and Data Engineering to turn business questions into reliable datasets
  • Build the transaction cost model covering acquirer, scheme, FX, KYC, fraud, chargeback, blockchain and custody costs
  • Support product launches by working with engineers and product managers to ensure the right data is logged
  • Define how revenue and costs are recognised, and deliver marts and dashboards
  • Build and maintain Metabase or Tableau dashboards
  • Build data-quality checks and alerts using dbt tests and Airflow checks that post to Slack and Jira
  • Cover data gaps between internal systems, the blockchain, custody and exchanges
  • Tune alerts to keep them useful rather than noisy
  • Attach acquirer fees, interchange and scheme fees, FX costs, KYC, transaction-monitoring and fraud-screening costs, chargeback costs, and blockchain and custody fees to each transaction
  • Match partner invoices and settlement reports against internal data every month
  • Find and quantify discrepancy root causes and help the business recover discrepancies
  • Automate manual reconciliation checks
  • Define fee and cost logic for new acquirers, payment methods and products
  • Specify data mappings for Data Engineering to implement
  • Validate data before it reaches reporting

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • 5+ years in data analytics or analytics engineering, preferably in payments, fintech, e-money or crypto
  • Expert SQL on large transactional datasets, including window functions, deduplication, incremental logic and performance tuning
  • Ability to read and safely refactor someone else's 1,000-line model
  • Hands-on experience with dbt or similar and a git-based workflow, including PRs and code review
  • Familiarity with Airflow
  • Solid grasp of card payment economics, including acquiring, interchange and scheme fees (IC++), settlement, chargebacks, 3DS and declines
  • Familiarity with alternative payment methods
  • Experience matching settlement or invoice files against internal ledgers and explaining discrepancies down to the cent
  • Hands-on experience with Python
  • Experience with BI tools such as Metabase, Tableau or similar
  • Clear communication with non-technical stakeholders
  • Professional English, written and spoken
  • Nice to have: knowledge of crypto infrastructure, including on-chain transactions, custody platforms, exchange APIs and network fees
  • Nice to have: experience with KYC/AML and fraud-prevention vendors and their pricing models
  • Nice to have: ClickHouse, StarRocks or another MPP database
  • Nice to have: experience building P&L or unit-economics models with Finance
