About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Provide strategic leadership and accountability for loss prevention strategies and risk mitigation initiatives across assigned facilities and service lines
- Maintain an influential presence within assigned areas and partner with Senior Leadership on insurance, claims management, loss prevention, adverse events, and operational risk exposures
- Collaborate with Human Resources, Legal, Quality, Compliance, and Patient Safety stakeholders to identify, prioritize, and mitigate risk exposures
- Provide cross-coverage support for the Risk Director or other team members during absences or temporary reassignments
- Serve as a subject matter expert and contribute to system-wide initiatives, committees, networks, task forces, and projects
- Lead timely initial event response, assess facts and risks, and determine next steps
- Serve as key point of contact for complex or high-risk event-related concerns
- Lead comprehensive investigations with clinical, legal, and operational stakeholders; synthesize findings, conduct risk assessments, and escalate significant issues
- Provide risk guidance through grievance committees and refine response communications where liability exposure exists
- Lead Apology & Disclosure strategy and Just-In-Time training, including materials development and logistics
- Coach clinicians and leaders on communication following adverse or unanticipated outcomes
- Identify cases for Early Liability Review and support resolution strategies and outcomes
- Partner with claims management on reporting and handling potentially compensable events
- Collaborate with outside counsel on interviews, fact development, and case preparation
- Manage administrative claims related to professional licensure and board investigations
- Provide risk guidance during CMS, Joint Commission, and Department of Health surveys and investigations
- Analyze claims, incident data, and post-loss outcomes to identify trends, root causes, and emerging risks
- Monitor risk mitigation action plans and ensure follow-up and escalation
- Design and implement loss prevention and risk reduction strategies with operational leadership
- Translate data insights, claim trends, and regulatory changes into facility- and system-level initiatives
- Deliver education on risk management, claims, and insurance principles
Requirements
What you’ll need- CPHRM within 1 year of hire (Required)
- Bachelor's Degree in Healthcare, Business, Legal, or related field (Required)
- 5+ years in Healthcare Risk Management, Quality or Safety (Required)
- Demonstrable understanding of Risk Management principles
- Outstanding written/oral communication and presentation skills
- Highly organized with ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and quickly transition/modify work focus
- Thorough understanding of healthcare operations and medicine
- Collaborative and responsive to associates at all levels
- Healthcare, Law or Insurance Licensure (Preferred)
- Master's Degree in Healthcare, Business, Legal, Insurance or related field (Preferred)
- Flexible/adaptable to change (Preferred)
- Detail oriented (Preferred)
- Thorough understanding of Claims/Litigation (Preferred)
- Basic understanding of Insurance for healthcare operations/employees (Preferred)
- Must be able to work and live within the Continental US based on company VPN access
