About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide safe, patient-centered nursing care according to Mercy standards, policies, and procedures
  • Assess patients and families and develop, implement, coordinate, and evaluate individualized plans of care
  • Communicate relevant clinical information during handoffs and with patients, families, and healthcare team members
  • Document nursing care accurately and in real time
  • Provide nursing interventions, respond to emergencies, and promote patient safety
  • Educate patients and families
  • Delegate and direct licensed and non-licensed personnel
  • Coordinate Cardiac Imaging procedures for staff, physicians, and patients
  • Operate or support ancillary equipment including treadmill stress systems, telemetry monitors, Holter/event monitors, and specialized IV infusion pumps
  • Monitor cardiac rhythms and implement appropriate interventions
  • Supervise stress testing independently or with ancillary staff
  • Assist with pacemaker changes for MRI, MRI stress testing, CT coverage, and TEE exams with sedation
  • Complete documentation and charge entry accurately and timely
  • Maintain current evidence-based practice, protocols, procedures, and safety practices

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Current license to practice as a registered nurse in the state of Iowa or a compact state
  • Current certification in Basic Life Support in accordance with the American Heart Association
  • Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse/Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training; certification must be submitted to Human Resources before start or transfer date
  • Current certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support, or completion within 3 months of hire
  • Sound background in basic nursing principles and procedures
  • Competency in unit-specific skills
  • Competent IV access skills
  • Knowledge of hemodynamic monitoring
  • Ability to administer CPR
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs occasionally and up to 100 lbs for controlled falls; additional specified lifting and pushing/pulling requirements
  • Previous RN experience in an acute care setting preferred
  • Critical care experience preferred
  • Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing preferred
