About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provides professional medical services to patients of MercyCare Community Physicians
  • Obtains and records appropriate patient medical histories, examinations, diagnoses, assessments, and care plans
  • Performs and/or orders clinically appropriate procedures and documents them
  • Analyzes tests and clinical examination findings to assess patient medical conditions and formulate diagnoses
  • Prescribes clinically appropriate medication and treatment and documents them timely
  • Refers patients to physicians, specialists, and other healthcare providers when warranted
  • Maintains accurate, complete, timely, and legible medical records
  • Reports births, deaths, contagious disease outbreaks, and other legally required information to governmental authorities
  • Uses and promotes evidence-based clinical practice
  • Exercises final medical judgment in healthcare matters
  • Reviews long-term cases requiring ongoing medical attention
  • Consults with the Medical Director and other medical professionals regarding patient care, assessment, and education
  • Participates in quality improvement, management, continuing education, and other patient care programs
  • Oversees mid-level medical staff, if applicable
  • Assists with patient complaints, requests, and inquiries
  • Follows Mercy safety guidelines and reports unsafe conditions, incidents, and injuries

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Education sufficient to obtain required licensure
  • Licensed to practice medicine without restriction or limitation in the State of Iowa required
  • Must have medical staff privileges at Mercy Medical Center
  • Iowa Dependent Adult Abuse/Iowa Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter training required; certification must be submitted to Human Resources prior to start or transfer date
  • Previous clinical experience preferred
  • Previous experience in field of practice preferred
  • Knowledge of and ability to apply professional medical principles, procedures, and techniques
  • Thorough knowledge of pharmacological agents used in patient treatment
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills along with proper telephone etiquette
  • Must be able to exert 20–50 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 10–15 lbs. of force frequently
