About the role

Key responsibilities & impact
  • Provide education and training to all disciplines of emergency care providers
  • Lead course development through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of classroom, laboratory, clinical, and online instruction
  • Develop EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, and/or AHA courses using state and national guidelines and curricula
  • Provide quality instruction across cognitive, psychomotor, and affective learning domains
  • Apply adult-learning principles in the classroom
  • Set course goals and objectives, and monitor and evaluate student progress
  • Engage learners and provide timely, effective feedback
  • Mentor and/or supervise novice instructors
  • Instruct at least one American Heart Association class: BLS, ACLS, or PALS
  • Document, collect, maintain, and submit accurate class records
  • Teach at varied times and locations using varied formats, including the main campus, mobile simulation lab, and student worksites
  • Provide exceptional customer service and interact effectively with students, customers, and Mercyhealth partners
  • Potentially mentor or supervise EMS Instructor 1 staff or AHA Instructor candidates

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Graduation from a University or Community College with a degree or certificate in an Emergency Care discipline (e.g., EMT, AEMT, Paramedic, RN, PA, DO, MD, Law Enforcement)
  • Two years of experience providing Emergency Care at one's State of Wisconsin licensed level
  • Required certification applicable to assigned training, such as a State of Wisconsin or Illinois Licensed Emergency Care Provider or other applicable certification
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification issued by the American Heart Association required within three months
  • Certified American Heart Association Instructor in at least one level (BLS, ACLS, PALS) within one year
  • Ability to read and interpret safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of students, customers, or employees
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic calculations
  • Ability to apply common-sense understanding to written, oral, or diagram instructions
  • Knowledge of word processing software, including development of PowerPoints for the classroom
  • Must be willing to travel off site for educational presentations 20% of the time
