About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Review patient information to determine normal heart rhythm patterns, current patterns, and prior variances
- Observe cardiac monitor screens and listen for alarms to identify abnormal heart rhythm variations
- Inform the RN caring for the patient of urgent rhythm variances
- Provide shift reports to staff caring for the patient as requested
- Complete documentation according to required standards
- Measure the length and height of heart rhythm patterns on graphic tape readouts and post information in patient records
- Triage the ongoing appropriateness of telemetry services with the supervisor
- Process orders accurately and timely
- Answer telephone calls and call lights appropriately
- Provide information or relay messages to patients and staff
Requirements
What you’ll need- High School diploma or general education degree (GED) preferred
- Completion of Unit Clerk course or equivalent on the job training
- Ability to read and interpret cardiac rhythms preferred
- Successful completion of the Mercy Health System telemetry course
- Basic computer skills are beneficial
- Ability to observe cardiac monitors and identify abnormal variations in heart rhythm
- Ability to communicate variances to the RN caring for the patient
- Ability to complete required documentation
- Ability to process orders accurately and timely
- Ability to answer telephone and call lights appropriately
- Ability to remain calm and exercise sound judgment
- Ability to follow safety and security procedures and use appropriate lifting techniques and/or equipment
- Consistent attendance and punctuality
- Ability to work independently and follow leadership direction
