About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Serve as the connective tissue of Meritus College, ensuring priorities, information, and decisions move effectively across functional areas
- Ensure teams have the clarity and infrastructure they need
- Proactively identify and unblock issues and escalate issues as needed
- Serve as a trusted first line of feedback and thought partnership across the organization
- Build systems, operating rhythms, and infrastructure as the College grows
- Drive alignment and accountability across Functional Leads through status meetings, 1:1 connects, and follow-ups
- Introduce and standardize practices, tools, and approaches that strengthen execution and communications
- Maintain visibility across College workstreams, connecting priorities, dependencies, decisions, and information
- Identify and resolve blockers and escalate issues to leadership when needed
- Build a supportive culture among Functional Leads
- Own and improve operating rhythms, meetings, workflows, and ways of working
- Design and implement solutions for gaps in systems, processes, communication, or ownership
- Bring structure and momentum to ambiguous work and emerging priorities
- Own College-wide forums, including All Hands meetings, and develop materials and sharebacks
- Shape communications for Merit America staff and leadership
- Support change management and build practices and rituals that strengthen communication, collaboration, accountability, recognition, and culture
- Serve as a trusted thought partner and first line of review
- Surface patterns, risks, opportunities, and organizational needs to leadership
- Develop first drafts of narratives, presentations, and materials for College leadership
- Partner with leadership on complex or ambiguous challenges
Requirements

- Demonstrated history of embodying our values
- Shared sense of responsibility and ownership for collective work and positive community impact
- Committed to continuous learning and growth in advancing inclusive excellence and closing gaps across lines of difference
- Passionate about fostering an inclusive workplace culture
- 10+ years of relevant experience, ideally including Chief of Staff, operations, consulting, program management, or similar roles in complex, multi-stakeholder organizations
- Bachelor's degree required
- Experience building in a 0→1 environment, including a startup, agency, nonprofit, or fast-scaling organization
- Track record of creating and rolling out structure, systems, and processes
- Highly organized with strong program management instincts and attention to detail and follow-through
- Exceptional stakeholder management skills
- Systems thinking and proactive problem-solving ability
- Strong executive communication skills, including synthesizing complex information into narratives, presentations, recommendations, and decisions
- High capacity and resourcefulness, with comfort moving between strategic thinking and hands-on execution
- Comfort with AI and emerging technologies and judgment about their appropriate use
- Sound judgment and executive presence
- Candidates must reside within the 50 states or District of Columbia
- Full authorization to work in the 50 U.S. states and the District of Columbia
