About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Assist lawyers with a wide variety of litigation matters, including civil and commercial litigation as well as estates litigation
- Draft documents
- Assemble motion records, affidavits, and other court documents as required
- Arrange for service of documents
- File documents with the court
- Open and update files and prepare documents in ACL software
- Complete the Litigation checklist for each file
- Coordinate Bring Forwards (BFs)
- Prepare retainer payment requests
- Ensure retainer agreement is sent and signed
Requirements
What you’ll need- Must have 3-5 years of litigation, legal assistant or law clerk experience
- Strong familiarity with Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure
- Proficiency with ACL Automated Civil Litigation software
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Superior interpersonal skills to interact with employees, lawyers, clients and external agencies
- Superior time management skills, multitasking skills, and ability to prioritize tasks with minimal supervision
- Professional, responsive and positive work attitude
- Ability to maintain filing systems and basic databases
- Meticulous records maintenance skills
