Key responsibilities & impact
  • Consult on associate relations matters for associates and leaders across the MLH system
  • Foster a healthy work environment by resolving workplace conflicts and ensuring fair, consistent policy application
  • Advise on performance management, accountability, corrective action, performance improvement plans, grievance procedures, and associate relations matters
  • Interpret policies and counsel associates on responsibilities and rights
  • Identify, manage, and support equitable resolution of job-related complaints and concerns
  • Conduct thorough, objective investigations and recommend legally compliant courses of action
  • Document decisions and maintain accurate case documentation in the case management system
  • Engage in the interactive process for leave, disability, and Workers Compensation accommodation requests
  • Resolve associate complaints, workplace conflicts, and other associate relations matters
  • Apply associate relations concepts, policies, and procedures to promote a positive associate experience
  • Develop, maintain, and deliver communications to managers and associates
  • Recommend strategies addressing current and future associate relations needs
  • Prepare documentation for unemployment claims, conflict resolution claims, federal and state agency claims, and employment-related litigation
  • Facilitate training on HR policies and compliance matters
  • Measure, assess, and improve associate relations service effectiveness and efficiency
  • Assist with internal audits and recommend resolutions
  • Recommend policy and practice changes in response to regulatory and environmental changes and HR advancements
  • Partner with HRBPs to understand business direction based on MLH policies and procedures
  • Model behavior aligned with MLH Mission, Vision, and Values

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • Bachelor's Degree in Human Resources required
  • 1–3 years of Human Resources experience required
  • In lieu of a Bachelor's degree, a high school diploma or equivalent with six (6) years of Human Resources experience is accepted
  • Preferred Senior Professional Human Resources Certification from HR Certification Institute
  • Preferred Certified Professional certification from the Society for Human Resource Management
  • Preferred Senior Certified Professional certification from the Society for Human Resource Management
  • Preferred Professional Human Resources Certification from HR Certification Institute
  • Preferred Certified in Healthcare Human Resources certification from the American Society for Healthcare Human Resource Administration
  • Excellent interpersonal, listening, verbal, and written communication skills
  • Ability to use logic and analytical discipline to solve difficult problems and identify viable solutions
  • Ability to influence others and exhibit leadership when addressing challenging issues
  • Knowledge of governmental rules and regulations affecting the associate/employer relationship
  • Demonstrated ability in conflict resolution
  • Knowledge of Title VII, FMLA, FLSA, ADEA, ADA, OWBPA, and USERRA
  • Broad knowledge of employee relations principles, practices, and procedures
  • Strong technical knowledge
  • Knowledge of HR laws, regulations, and best practices
  • Strong research, analysis, problem-solving, and decision-making skills
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to prioritize, coordinate multiple tasks, organize work, and control workflow
  • Ability to make decisions guided by policies, practices, procedures, and business plans
  • Must have good balance and coordination
  • Ability to perform light work, exerting up to 25 lbs. occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. frequently
  • Close visual acuity for preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing computer terminals, and extensive reading
