About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Process referrals from referring medical providers and new patients to Behavioral Health
- Coordinate and assure the smooth flow of referral and scheduling processes
- Complete prior authorizations as required
- Handle referrals and follow-up appointments, gather necessary information, and schedule appointments
- Obtain demographic, insurance, verification, and eligibility information for new patients
- Register new patients in the system
- Prepare and organize new patient charts
- Schedule, cancel, and reschedule appointments according to physician and office guidelines
- Notify clinic personnel about physician schedule changes
- Enter authorization and referral correspondence into patient charts and the computer system
- Serve as receptionist by providing general information and directing visitors
- Answer office telephones, route incoming calls, and take or relay messages
- Complete and submit hospital charges for billing
- Prepare and submit data to third-party vendors
- Perform other job functions as needed or requested

Requirements
What you’ll need- Required: High School Diploma or Equivalent
- Required: 3–5 years of experience in a healthcare or medical office environment
- Ability to foster and maintain good working relationships with internal and external customers
- Ability to work well in a multitasking environment with close attention to detail
- Ability to work effectively and productively without close supervision
- Ability to exercise independent judgment in decision making
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Proficiency in Windows-based applications, particularly Excel and Word
- Ability to operate standard office equipment, including fax and copy machines
- Must have good balance and coordination
- Ability to perform physical activities including climbing, pushing, standing, hearing, walking, reaching, grasping, kneeling, stooping, and repetitive motion
- Ability to exert up to 25 lbs. occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. frequently
- Close visual acuity for preparing and analyzing data and figures, transcribing, viewing computer terminals, and extensive reading
