About the role

Key responsibilities & impact

  • Supports the design and implementation of state government affairs strategies in the assigned territory to advance the company’s business interests.
  • Oversees state government affairs consultants and lobbyists in the territory.
  • Identifies and builds relationships with state stakeholder groups.
  • Actively monitors or participates in state associations.
  • Monitors state regulator or commission meetings.
  • Monitors lobbyists to ensure company and state compliance requirements are maintained.
  • Facilitates communication across departments and consults subject matter experts when needed.
  • Collaborates with Marketing, Communications, and consultant teams on state government communications, events, and campaigns.
  • Creates talking points and materials.
  • Tracks, flags, and reports legislative developments using legislative tracking software.
  • Analyzes legislation and regulations to identify potential impacts to the business.
  • Builds relationships with government officials and policymakers.
  • Reports key metrics, including meetings, testimony, and bill outcomes, using CRM software.
  • Collaborates with the Government Affairs Director on the Annual Report.
  • Coordinates responses to risks and opportunities with internal and external teams.
  • Supports the Government Affairs Director in political compliance.
  • Supports proposals for government procurements.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

What you’ll need
  • A bachelor's degree in political science, public administration, management, or a related field is required for this job.
  • Minimum two years of government affairs experience, preferably across multiple states and on technology issues (or in another regulated industry).
  • Experience working in state government or a state legislature a plus.
  • Experience working in a broad range of policy, regulatory, and legal environments a plus.
  • Ability to work independently yet collaboratively with both internal and external peers, elected officials, regulators, and constituencies; exercise judgment and discretion in matters of significance and operate with integrity and within the core values of the company.
  • Demonstrated understanding of policy-making process; ability to read, analyze, and interpret legislation and regulations.
  • Familiarity with Quorum or other legislative tracking software, Salesforce or other CRM software, and MS Office.
  • Ability to work well under pressure on multiple projects while producing high-quality deliverables within critical deadlines.
  • Travel required; must be willing to work evenings and weekends as needed to meet job requirements.
  • Continually utilize visual acuity to operate equipment, read technical information, and/or use a keyboard and mouse.
