About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Design, develop, and execute comprehensive test plans and test cases for new features, platform updates, and integration changes
- Perform functional, regression, integration, and end-to-end workflow testing
- Validate API behavior, including request/response accuracy, error handling, edge cases, and data integrity
- Test multi-step workflows spanning Metrc’s platform and third-party integrations, including POS systems, ERP platforms, and state regulatory reporting interfaces
- Contribute to test automation strategies and develop or maintain automated test scripts where applicable
- Investigate and reproduce software defects from internal QA, customer escalations, and cross-functional channels
- Conduct root cause analysis on software failures
- Manage the full defect lifecycle in Jira, including logging, prioritization, retesting, and closure
- Collaborate with Engineering to validate bug fixes and confirm resolutions meet acceptance criteria
- Identify systemic issue patterns and surface findings to QA and Product leadership
- Validate end-to-end technical workflows and data flows across integrated systems
- Test configuration-driven behaviors, including state-specific compliance rules, licensee settings, and feature flags
- Evaluate downstream integration impacts of platform changes and flag release-readiness risks
- Collaborate with the Configuration Specialist on customer-specific platform setups during onboarding or go-live
- Participate in release-readiness reviews and provide documented QA readiness assessments
- Communicate test status, outstanding defects, and risk assessments with Product, Engineering, and the Release Manager
- Contribute to acceptance criteria for new features and user stories
- Support QA standards and release-readiness criteria with the Head of Quality
- Maintain QA documentation in Confluence and Jira
- Contribute to QA processes, testing frameworks, and standards
- Participate in post-release retrospectives and translate findings into improvements
- Stay current with software QA methodologies, tooling, and best practices
Requirements
What you’ll need- 4+ years of experience in software QA engineering within a SaaS or software product environment
- Demonstrated experience testing APIs and validating complex technical workflows across integrated systems
- Proficiency with API testing tools such as Postman, Insomnia, or equivalent
- Ability to construct, execute, and evaluate API test cases independently
- Strong understanding of software development lifecycles, Agile/Scrum methodologies, and QA’s role within sprint-based delivery models
- Advanced proficiency with Jira for defect management, test tracking, and reporting
- Experience with Confluence for documentation
- Solid analytical and troubleshooting skills, with a structured approach to root cause analysis across multi-system environments
- Strong written communication skills
- Experience working in regulated, compliance-driven, or government-adjacent industries
- Experience with test automation frameworks such as Selenium, Cypress, Playwright, or similar (preferred)
- Familiarity with SQL or comparable query tools (preferred)
- Background in testing configuration-driven or multi-tenant SaaS platforms (preferred)
- Experience validating integrations with POS systems, ERP solutions, or state regulatory reporting interfaces (preferred)
- Knowledge of cannabis technology, track-and-trace compliance requirements, or state regulatory software environments (preferred)
- ISTQB certification or equivalent formal QA training (a plus)
