About the role
Key responsibilities & impact- Build camera systems and on-device software feeding video intelligence products
- Own edge capture devices end to end, from board bring-up and on-device software through fieldable physical form factors
- Perform bring-up and configuration on embedded Linux platforms, including flashing, kernel and device tree configuration, camera module enablement, and driver troubleshooting
- Build and maintain on-device capture pipelines recording synchronized video and audio with sensor telemetry
- Design capture behavior for denied, disrupted, intermittent, and limited-bandwidth environments, including local buffering and store-and-forward delivery
- Integrate and synchronize depth and stereo cameras, inertial measurement units, and positioning receivers
- Convert development kits and off-the-shelf components into fieldable units while addressing enclosure, mounting, power, and thermal constraints
- Produce bills of materials, assembly instructions, and test procedures
- Present design tradeoffs and test results to senior leadership and customer stakeholders
- Collaborate with AI engineers, data engineers, and DevOps engineers supporting federal and defense customers
Requirements
What you’ll need- Strong experience with embedded Linux on ARM based systems on chip, including NVIDIA Jetson platforms, device tree configuration, and CSI camera enablement
- At least 5 years of hands-on development in C, C++, and Python on resource constrained devices
- Demonstrated experience integrating development kits and commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) components into working devices deployed in real-world or field environments, including packaging, power, and mounting considerations
- Experience building edge systems that capture and manage sensor or media data, such as cameras, IMUs, GNSS, environmental sensors, vehicle telemetry, or other physical sensor data
- Experience designing systems that operate reliably under unreliable or limited connectivity, including local storage/buffering, retry behavior, store-and-forward workflows, and eventual delivery of media or telemetry to cloud services
- Expert experience with video capture and encoding pipelines, including GStreamer, V4L2, hardware accelerated H.264 and H.265 encoding, and RTSP or WebRTC transport
- Strong experience integrating and synchronizing sensors such as inertial measurement units and GNSS receivers, including calibration and timestamp alignment across streams
- Experience delivering media and telemetry to cloud services, including object storage, resumable and chunked uploads, and retry behavior under unreliable connectivity
- Working knowledge of power budgeting, battery systems, and thermal management in compact devices
- Ability to work with limited direction in an innovation environment where requirements evolve and priorities shift
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to document designs and test results for both engineering and customer audiences
- Must be in the Reston HQ office a minimum of 3 days/week
- Ability to obtain a Secret Clearance
- Must verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States
